Solar Hot Water Demo

We have asked Eaga, one of the many solar thermal installers in Scotland, to demonstate how you can generate your own solar-heated water. A representative will be at the BeGreen shop on the following dates: Thursday 18 June 9.30am – 12.30pm Thursday 16 July 9.30am – 12.30pm Friday 24 July 9.30am – 12.30pm

Solar thermal heating systems are one of the most cost effective and environmentally friendly renewable energy sources available. You could generate around 50-70% of your annual domestic hot water requirement using the power of the sun!

Using the sun as a renewable source will help reduce your energy bills, as it’s cheaper to run than gas and kinder to the environment.

Could solar energy work for your home?
If you have a south, south east or south west facing roof or wall surface with 2 – 5 m2 of unobstructed space then your home may be suitable to generate its own solar hot water!

How much will it cost?
Installation costs will vary depending on the size and type of the solar collector system you install. A typical solar water system can cost around £3000 – £5000

Can I get grant assistance?
Yes. Grants are available through the Energy Savings Trust. You could receive up to 30% of £4,000 towards installing renewable technology in your home. Also, if you live in the Dunbar / East Linton ward you could receive an additional BeGreen top- up grant.
